Summary
The Program, which will run from 19 June-2 September, 2006, will include a three-week intensive course on post-conflict areas, concentrating on the situation in eastern Croatia, a six week research project and an optional course in Croatian. Costs are 2900â¬/3500 US Dollars, with a very limited amount of scholarship assistance available. This costs including tax-deductible course contribution, Internet use, use of office equipment and printing and copying, housing, celebrations, lunches for the intensive period of the course and a SIM card for the local mobile telephone system.
Background
The CWWPP is a Dutch registered organization working on issues of health, civil society, non-violent conflict transformation and (re-) development of society. The Coalition has been in the region since 1995. The CWWPP has had interns and volunteers since 1999. They have stayed for periods ranging from a few weeks up to about six months. This program is part of the development of the Vukovar Field Institute for Post-Conflict Studies. More information about that program can be found on the CWWPP website, www.cwwpp.org.
Aims
The aims of the Summer Program in Post-Conflict Studies are to give the participant an impression of a post-conflict area and to assist the participant in refining his/her academic skills.
Elements of the Program
⢠a three week intensive course in the problems of post-conflict areas, including an introduction to the region, the history of the area and the conflict, the politics of the region, the role of religion in the region, human rights in the region, civil society, education, health and traumatization and reconciliation and return.
⢠A six week period during which participants will be required to carry out a research project.
⢠An optional six week course in the Croatian language.
Methodology
The Course
The course will consist of talks by persons who were and are directly involved in the region. Discussions will take place on each topic. The course will be coordinated by Dr. Charles David Tauber, Head of Mission of the CWWPP in Vukovar.
The Project Period
⢠Participants will be required to carry out a project of their choice. They will be required to write a paper of a minimum of fifteen pages and give a seminar at the end of the Program.
⢠Guidance will take place at least twice weekly.
Dates:
19 June-1 September, 2006, with a break from 21 July â 6 August. Participants will be required to be present during all periods except the break. No exceptions will be made.
Number of Participants:
10-15.
The Program Coordinator will be Dr. Charles David Tauber, Head of Mission of the Coalition for Work With Psychotrauma and Peace in Vukovar.
Housing: Housing will be arranged in private homes in Vukovar and surroundings.

Costs
All amounts are in Euros and US Dollars
Costs including tax-deductible course contribution, Internet use, use of office equipment and printing and copying, housing, celebrations, lunches for the intensive period of the course and a SIM card for the local telephone system.
2900 Euros/3500 USD
Costs for citizens of countries of the former Yugoslavia; These costs include all of the above except housing and a SIM card. Participants are expected to pay for housing, food and other expenses, except the course contribution and lunches for the intensive period and celebrations, as well as transportation to and from Vukovar. Local participants are expected to participate fully in the course as well as to spend time outside of the course with other participants, local and foreign.
600 Croatian Kuna/100 US Dollars
Optional Croatian language course 350 Euros/420 USD
Please note that participants will be responsible for transportation to and from Vukovar, food and any other costs and excursions.
Visas: In general, persons from Western Europe, North America, Australia and New Zealand do not need visas to visit Croatia for up to three months. Please check with the nearest Croatian consulate for details. Further information can be found on the website www.mvp.hr.
